Because if Corbyn is as bad as he makes out, people will rightly say, "Well, why did you work alongside him and agree to be in his shadow cabinet then?" And neither can Starmer answer that he served with Corbyn because he didn't think he was antisemitic -- because then people will ask, "If you don't agree he's antisemitic, why have you chucked him out?"
