Thanks for the long and considered response. You spell out what doctor's surgeries and nightingale hospitals can do etc. You've also made it clear the government's lockdown is a sham. That's all well and good, but you don't appear to have answered my simple question: whether you would advocate more stringent measures or indeed a lockdown. Why is it so difficult to answer that? Do you want to close gyms, dance clubs, theatres, "non-essential" shops, do you want a ban on people visiting each other? Do you want people to be forced to wear masks, inside, outside? Again in your answer, I have to say, there doesn't appear to be a single thought that any measures are having any detrimental effect. But maybe you do. Which is why I ask: how many other deaths plus destroyed lives are worth it? Also printing money and chucking it at the problem is surely not a proper solution. Every poor country could just do that. Yes, the US does it for its banks to keep the system afloat -- but (i) they're a superpower with other economies (for the time being) dependent upon the dollar and (ii) that money doesn't reach the great mass of people -- if it did, massive inflation will automatically follow. The Great Barrington Declaration proposes that if we absolutely isolate vulnerable people for three months the illness will sweep through the rest of the population and then be gone for good due to herd immunity. Sunetra Gupta knows she's bluffing in the promotional video when she says mathematical models show it will just disappear. How do you know with such certainty? Many so-called experts have egg on their faces -- Neil Ferguson first and foremost. And no, I have not been advocating doing nothing, though in your eyes it's probably nothing. The bottom line is, even as we stew and die....we've been lied to by government pretending to act whilst screwing us over and also by the Koch funded deniers who are claiming we don't need to do anything. Really I think you're quite mistaken here. The banks are far closer to a pro-lockdown approach than you suggest. Why do you think the World Bank puts lockdown (plus the various other "health" measures) as a condition for Belarus to be granted a loan? Why not the usual stuff about privatising their industries? Do they suddenly care about the vulnerable? |
