Apologies thomas for my own snark - it was late and i should have added something like the following to balance it: Coming from a position of scepticism of the scepticism of covid sceptics doesn't affect my scepticism of whatever our government says (espeically when lots of that covid-scepticism comes from the same sort of people that fill the government, and even more or less directly from the government at times). Of course i'm sceptical of the claims about the vaccine as part of my default lack of trust of this government our media and corporations like pfizer, especially in light of the legal indemnity posted above by johnhol. (I'm more cautious of the oxford vaccine but that's my bias based on more experience of our government). I'd be inclined to wait for more data, or at least for some more countries to judge it as safe. Two of my relatives are high up nurses and definitely pro vaccination generally, but they're both hesitant to sign up for this vaccine so early. Otherwise the proof of the pudding is in the eating - if many thousands take it and have no real issues (aside from the allergy issues already highlighted today), i'd lean towards recommending my mum take it rather than possibly die from covid (which is rampant in my area atm). But either way, if you believe in the danger of covid (and i can see the hospitals fill up around me and the deaths increasing right now), it's a balance of risks. |
