Yes that is true. So do we sit by hands tied and admit defeat? With no real end in sight, what happens to music, expression, solidarity, tactility, all the things that we always used to remind ourselves of our own humanity even where the greatest dictators tried to wipe all that away? Is it different now? Are we check mated? Do they win because for any of those expressions of freedom we tacitly remove it from others to be human with other humans? How do people here reconcile such a wiping away of the beautiful things about sharing life with others? Do you believe there will be a time soon when the risks are diminished and life returns to some normality? What about all those from poor nations who are suffering even more as a result? I keep thinking about that freedom vs security quote and wonder why it's only belligerent deniers of covid that are quoting such now. Honestly the world is upside down. I'm not sure there are any political movements worth a damn left now, and it feels very much like voicing these concerns about the most impoverished off the back of lockdowns seems almost tantamount to treason in all quarters. But I don't understand how that happened so swiftly and completely. |
