    Sad news, but jeez:

    Puke, how could any intelligent person with an ounce of political understanding say such an idiotic thing?

    '“I knew nothing of the Middle East, but then I have always seen my novels as opportunities for self-education,” le Carre told Davis.

    Writing the novel left him a staunch supporter of the Jewish state, he said.

    Asked where he stood after his journey, le Carre replied: “Where I began — only more so. I mean, I stood — and stand — wholeheartedly behind the nation-state of Israel as the homeland and guardian of Jews everywhere. And wholeheartedly behind the peace process as the guarantor not only of Israel’s survival, but of the Palestinian survival also.” '

    Sounds like nothing changed then, he still knew nothing about the subject, as proved by his signing that dreadful letter buying into the a/s smear.

    That said I have enjoyed reading his books over the last couple years, though was hoping for stronger dissension over the war on terror after the Eds pointed out the hammering he got in the press for what he did write, see:
