The 'nightingales' were just for show, a big red herring - we didn;t have enough staff in the actual non-temporary hospitals let alone to staff them Well, they had 4 months to get nursing staff for these -- again at a fraction of the cost of the economic (and societal) destruction. They didn't. To give the token back, why aren't you more sceptical of johnson's government (in as much as they've tried to drag their feet and at least initially, seemed to want to go full herd immunity)? and why not more scepticism of sweden's authorities (given recent numbers/statements), or trump's people? Or for that matter, why not more sceptical about the GBD, given the financial/political connections? The above point is exactly why I am sceptical of this government. I don't believe their nonsense about "flattening the curve not to overwhelm the NHS" to then do nothing much to get the NHS ready for the Autumn/Winter. And I don't care whether they had to be (apparently) dragged to lockdowns. I care about their actions, not their words. (Just like the Iraqi citizens didn't care whether the US/UK leaders were reluctant or gung-ho about smashing up their country.) It's the action that counts -- in this case, their three lockdowns. As for GBD, they're not in charge of anything so there are no actions to judge, just whether their message makes sense (it does to me) -- irrespective of whose platform they're standing on. What say you about sweden now? (and you could answer my questions on the end of the last post if you want). Well, I also had a few unanswered questions at the beginning of the email before yours! Without lockdown, would the hospitals be more or less full? Well, difficult to say with confidence either way. You'd have to rerun the experiment -- or look at two countries side by side with similar demographics yet different policies. They might be fuller, but on the other hand you wouldn't have many of the other collateral damage.
