Trying to figure out how many kids are in school in the uk- guessing maybe 10-15 million? All with direct ties to maybe 80% of the rest of the public. How many workers never stopped working (not just health and care workers, but business people, truck drivers, train and bus and airport employees), etc. The lockdowns happened but only for those in the most vulnerable economic situations (zero hour contracts, low pay, non guaranteed positions, hospitality, cleaning, musicians and small scale entertainers, and so forth). With the degrees of separation in the society we live in, did it do anything but crush those already low? Who knows, but championing these govt decrees still seems arse about face no matter how you cut it. If we're prepared to concede hospitals can't cope because of govt policies we should also in the same breath concede that nor can the poor. Therefore, we should be able to say with a degree of certainty that half arsed lockdowns that focus only on those with the least may have done bugger all to fix or limit the pandemic. More likely, it's prolonged it to a steady flow, which seems built for longevity and control on that basis and seems anything but a process designed in any sense for eradication or management of the disease. Still don't understand why pointing that out and saying the side effects of such lockdowns are potentially worse is met with such vitriole. Have we forgotten how govts work? Any tragedy is an opportunity. The more we concede to their solutions the greater the tragedy becomes. Like liberals who maintained the solution for Afghanistan was occupation (but not like this!). They already gave their permission for the guns and bombs and then acted put out when they were used to kill people. This situation seems similar; not the same, obviously.
