It also might be where you heard about the lateral flow test only finding 3% of positive people https://twitter.com/deeksj/status/1340975390412685312 Interestingly, from the same Twitter thread source: Our estimate of overall sensitivity is 3.2% (95% CI 0.6% to 15.6%). For cases with Ct<30 sensitivity it is 5.0% (95% CI: 0.8% to 32.1%) and <25 it is 100% (95% CI 15.8% to 100%) Someone has tweeted a reply: “Very interesting, as it highlights that increased ct returns more positive tests, PHE recommends a ct of 25.6, could you also not say that the 6 at increased ct could be false positives, were they confirmed real positives by other means?” Which is referring to the 6 pcr positives not found by the lateral flow test. ( Ct is the amplification) “The standard cutoff in the TurnKey lab is 35” that may be fine because systems vary, I don’t know. It’s impossible to conclude much from the above, due to too few numbers of positives, and you could never say that the lateral flow test is 100% sensitive when the Ct is below 25 based on 2 positive tests. I think it sort of highlights that there could be a somewhat circular argument when comparing one test with another. I mean if a better pcr test than the current best pcr test came along could it potentially “fail” in comparison?
