Hare is no Pinter. Not in the same league. I distrust writers (in particular) who become knights -- Hare, Stoppard. I don't see how they can cosy up to the heart of the establishment and still keep the raw edge of dissent so necessary to their calling. Pinter refused it, as did Bennett (a raw edge in mittens?) and the actor Albert Finney. And John le Carre also turned it down, which I give him credit for, but was a huge disappointment to me (see recent posts) because he signed the letter along with William Boyd alleging that Corbyn and Labour were antisemitic -- still can't get my head around these two intelligent talented writers falling for such blatant BS.
