I had been pretty stressed actually having had the bad news for three months and because I had heard nothing. I knew that the service was overloaded so thought my chances of survival were not very good. I am getting on in years too. The consultant is a lovely man (near retirement) and I have got to know him quite well since he successfully treated me for the disease in 2014. He looks worn out. Having thyroid cancer means quite a long 'pathway' - clinic appts, scans, tests, surgery and then six weeks of daily radiotherapy. Then a scan following an injection of radioactive iodine to check uptake. Quite complicated and also very costly to the NHS. I was told that thyroid cancer is acquired from the environment - from something you have eaten or drunk or breathed in. I do not know if that is true but think of Fukushima, Windscale and so on and the radioactivity releases. The consultant told me of hearing of some of Dubya's family members having it including their dog!
