I looked after the patients in a cardiac surgical icu which has been opened to try and maintain some semblance of an emergency service for non covid patients
All the regular staff have been sent to the 12 extra icus in the region that have been set up to cope with the huge influx of patients with respiratory failure.
Despite attempts to keep the ward covid free half the patients had covid pneumonitis. Non ICU staff from the rest of the hospital were covering the ward so the least sick patients were sent to us.
The oldest patient was early 50s the two youngest in their 30s. 3 of the patients had several children. In one of the families both parents were in icu and the oldest sibling was looking after the younger children. The expected mortality in that group of patients is 30-40% My job to phone the next of kin and to give them a daily update.
Community cardiac arrests have doubled. We are seeing more advanced cancer patients at presentation. Truth is there is no way to provide cardiac or cancer services when wards have covid patients in them. As per Margot's posts suicides have increased from 10 per 100000 to 18 per thousand over the past 5 years with a significant increase in the past year. 1/3 of excess deaths at home were non covid though a proportion of them will have had covid.Contrary to deniers claims GPs are not certifying as covid unless there is clear evidence.
These harms all accrue from a failure to control the virus and to support the population financially.
1500 people died of covid today. It is my opinion that spreading specious covid bullshit is harmful. I'm not hosting it here. You may dislike the fact but my professional obligation and your wish to publish what you want are in conflict. Read the post again and, though for some I doubt it, you might understand why I don't give a monkeys about your opinion of my prohibition of the posting of whatever you want here. I've always said I have some red lines and it should be fairly clear what they are in this case. There are plenty of sites on which to spin.
