It isn't blasphemy to make a comparison. No analogy is a perfect thing, it's only the Internet age that had made it a sin to make an analogous comment and have it shot down on the basis it's not an exact replica. I know Dan has been going through some rough shit. So have all the people dead from covid. But so have so many others not personally hit by covid. Compassion needs to extend to all, not just me and mine. Margos post further down show this; it's not black and white! No one needs to fall absolutely one side of an imaginary fence or another! Covid is for done a killer. So is the economic effect of capital driven style lockdowns. The two are not exclusive; if you care about people you care about both those dying directly and indirectly of the covid pandemic. Complaining that covid needs a firm one sided message is not the answer. If we care about people we care both about those sick and dying from covid and those at the end because of dispossession. We don't all have guaranteed income, support or care. Just in the uk this is true. In the world at large it's even more dire. I sympathise massively with health workers in the uk but the answer isn't I think to stifle discussion. The more that happens the less less learned individuals will trust anything anyone says. And when it comes down to it, none of them affect governmental decisions anyway! After all, when did anything I ever think affect govt policy? The answer is .. Never |
