The Express story is just the usual "Pauper nation" nonsense that has been promoted all my life: made up rubbish.
Craigs story is a different matter altogether, though I don't think the story with all its intricacies and details have made much impression on the Scottish public so far.
Even if it did the problem is that however much you are convinced that the SNP hierarchy are a worthless shower of liars who have shot themselves in the foot in their failed attempt to jail their prior leader, there's presently no alternative to vote for if, like over half the population, you want Independence because all the other main parties are Unionist. Who is going to drop the SNP for the even more corrupt and lying Tories or Labour with the added bonus ignominy of voting unionist?
Having said that, I'm not convinced that the SNP are actually even an Independence party any more. In this strange world where politicians don't actually stand for anything but themselves I get election leaflets from Conservative candidates who don't even use the word "conservative" on their election literature anywhere, and taking this cue I recently got one from the SNP candidate, who spent his efforts ranting about Brexit: no mention of Independence... and absolutely no mention of a referendum which would be the only way to reverse said Brexit. Its all very bizarre.
