I too find that attitude a bit disturbing when I occasionally encounter it on the left. What we need is no empires, no billionaires, no security states spying on domestic and foreign populations for domination and control. Whiney Webb has written about how spokespeople/spooks for the US security state like Eric Schmidt, formerly of Alphabet/Google, have complained that human rights/privacy laws in the US handcuff their ability to equal China in the AI department - which recognizes no such rights and has a larger population base to spy on - and that the handcuffs need to come off (not like they weren't already pretty loose-fitting). Another example of the race to the bottom. https://www.thelastamericanvagabond.com/techno-tyranny-how-us-national-security-state-using-coronavirus-fulfill-orwellian-vision/ Anyway, for the record, a few translations from Hanwang's Orwellian Bullshit into English: Huang Lei: “It can detect crime suspects, terrorists or make reports or warnings” translation: “It can detect dissidents, crime suspects terrorists make reports or warnings” Huang Lei: “It not only benefits Chinese people, but also, when the technology is applied globally, it can benefit the world.” translation: "It not only benefits the Chinese security state and helps them spy on their own population, but also, when the technology is applied globally, it can benefit repressive governments around the world to do the same to their people. And we'll get really f*cking rich"
