Research funding, and its trajectory, didn't change at all from the Obama era, under Trump. Nothing stood in the way of scientists doing science. The privilege academics enjoy to set policy, WAS attacked, however. This is a power issue, and this is the wellspring of the explosion of hate we saw and continue to see. I may be missing something, but I don't see science emerging from the Trump era damaged at all. Nonetheless, Trump didn't understand, or want to understand infectious disease, that is for sure. That was most clearly, perhaps, where Trump touched the face of evil. |
