re Nothing stood in the way of scientists doing science. Under extreme neoliberal capitalism ownership of the economy and therefore control of available resources - and therefore funding for universities, private research institutes, international scientific bodies, etc - by elite groups do stand in the way of how scientists do science, both under Trump and Obama and every other US president. The only debatable point, as it seems to me, is whether one faction of the single corporate party in the US is a little more extreme in its attack on public institutions, which is probably true. |
