"Given that poverty and ill health are built into capitalism are you suggesting we should have overthrown capital?" We are still capitalist (and will continue as such for the foreseeable future) so your logic suggests that any solution, e.g. vaccines (produced, incidentally, by capitalists), would fail because ill-health is built-in anyway. We (finally) stamped on the tobacco industry and we executed massive public health campaigns against smoking - within a capitalist society. Now very few people smoke (in our capitalist society), massively reducing the strain on the NHS. We have implemented nationalisations here and there within a capitalist society. So, no, overthrowing capital is not a prerequisite to solving the covid problem. The government and NHS have been deafeningly silent on what people can do (e.g. diet) to bolster themselves against viruses. And the whole medical establishment has been silent about the government's inaction over the toxicity being pumped into our environment (mostly by capitalists), thereby weakening people's resilience against infections (e.g. covid). Instead, the medical establishment has simply weighed-in behind capitalist 'saviours' (Pfizer, AZ, etc), saying nothing about the capitalist villains (e.g. the ones putting dodgy chemicals in our food, weakening our immunity). And the medical establishment has further bolstered its sugar-daddy, big-pharma (deeply entrenched in medical schools education delivery), by insisting that no cheap and plentiful medicines (e.g. HCQ, Ivermectin, Vitamin D, supplements) can help significantly; only hi-tech vaccines (requiring life-long repeat-business booster shots) can do that. It looks like the medical profession has sold out.
