A good lie gets round the world before the truth has put its boots on. Never more adequate an old saying than in relation to the web. Interesting the terminology of that too; webs are made for catching things and sucking the life out of them. In recent years even for the most innocuous web searches I've found the same misinformation quoted word for word on the top 50 pages. Not just for politics but for practical or academic pursuits. Most of it I probably don't catch except for on topics I know something about. What chance have kids got who believe the Internet is the source of all knowledge (where knowledge is generally heavily nuanced with caveats)? I laugh when I hear my kids refer to this as the Information Age, but it's an uneasy laugh. This is more of the same, like when Cheney said they'd be telling lies now because the enemy was listening (or something to that effect). It's already happening, always was, they're just more brazen about it now.
