Thanks for your comments, and I don't take issue with either criticism. Regarding economic levelling the devil is of course in the detail. I certainly advocate the Swedish kind, not so much the East German. Secondly, yes, by 'pioneers of the intenet' I was meaning the early users rather than owners (not that I do know much about it's origins). Online there was a definite libertarian vibe about censorship that the controllers knew they weren't expected to challenge - that's what seems to have been lost.
