Not sure there's anything fake about authoritarian tendencies of governments.. and whether by economics or any other means, if authority grows and freedom shrinks (let's say for the 4/5ths of the world without access to vaccinations) isn't the end result the same? I don't think the ramifications should be dismissed simply because you agree with this one aspect. It's problematic as any curb on already diminished freedom is. I can see in the near future it used as an excuse for example to drown or deny further refugees. Just because that result might not be your intended one doesn't mean it won't happen. I'd say it's why concepts like freedom (as enshrined in the Geneva conventions) can't and shouldn't be picked and chosen. Just like free speech and the right to protest. If you find yourself arguing exceptions, you're probably on the wrong side of history! |
