It seems obvious that there's some sort of coordinated attack on the bbc going on via this. Despite how shit and biased we all know it to be (at least in terms of news), it's still too much for the establishment that it might, in theory at some point be made to be as accountable as it's supposed to be on paper, or even perish the thought, democratically controlled - (it only takes their control of the elections to slip like it nearly did in 2017 and they might do Leveson 2 and the rest - they need to nip that in the bud). Maybe the goal is to scare it even more overtly right wing to 'balance' all those hordes of lefties that are all over the place currently (!), or maybe it's just to turn it into subscription model to cash in - either way, something's afoot. It's a bit like I feel about government generally - as an anarchist-leaning person, I ultimately want a stateless society with self-government/direct democracy all that jazz (I think), but in the meantime, the government is still one of the main means we have of defending ourselves against capital, however uselessly, so I generally don't go along with efforts to make 'smaller government', which generally only suit capital. I feel similarly about keeping the bbc public for the off chance that some socialist/social democrat might get in and make it more democratic at some point. However small a chance that might be, it seems better than leaving the field open to NewsUK or whoever (though I think the new Murdoch tv channel has been ditched, so just the Andrew Neil one). Saying all that, I'm not going to make any particular effort to save the bastards.
