And, again, what spy is going to first demonstrate outside the embassy of the country which they are going to spy against? (And, again, if protesting outside an embassy was a criminal offence we'd all be inside.) Incidentally, couldn't we all be described as anti-UK propagandists? Anti the regime, at any rate. While in this country. With UK passports. Sheet, I heard a rumour that there are even anarchists on here! I appreciate that Iran is an ongoing target and is, consequently, more likely to be sensitive to stuff that is tolerated (with some reluctance) over here. If Mark Curtis is wrong on this it's not just a "blind spot". It's highly dangerous and irresponsible. Giving a platform to anti-Iran propagandists? Giving ammunition to the enemy, no less, at a time when Iran is in the cross-hairs. That's massive, especially given his reputation and following. Well, at least, on the upside, we'll all be able to reclaim some much needed real estate in our bookcases. Curtis is well aware what damage this would do to his reputation - undermining any future and past work. Sending out that email announcing that he is hosting Zaghari-Ratcliffe's husband sounds like he has his mind made up. And he wouldn't do that, on such an important issue, based on circumstantial evidence. But that's merely an assumption and there are quite enough assumptions out there already. That's the problem, as I see it - the rush to judgement without real evidence. |
