But this is orders of magnitude more serious than the Challenger crash, so the cases are not really analogous at all. This relates to secret, criminal - or what should be criminal - bioweapons research that may have led to vast and catastrophic global impacts with the two most powerful states states in the world directly implicated. Both have overwhelming reasons to cover up any evidence pointing to their responsibility, and unsurprisingly the WHO investigation into Covid-19's origin was a joke, hobbled by conflicts of interest, limited access and other problems. There are many scientists who want a serious investigation to take place, but that doesn't mean the governments involved whose cooperation is necessary will allow that to happen.
