Another book I am going to have to make time for, I guess. Provocative title! Seems to be stating, once again, what should be obvious. There are no shallow green technofix 'solutions' to climate change and the environmental crisis. Many good points in the review. 'Renewables' at best a damaging add-on to continued fossil fuel use. Jevons paradox. Pollution outsourcing. More should be made of net zero emissions. Licence to keep emitting - with 'offsets' lost in the time/space ether. Capitalism is a nightmare. Our lifestyles are not sustainable. We can try to manage the collapse, ease the transition. Unlikely, given the prevalence of denialism, aided by pseudo-green (capitalism-friendly) 'solutions'. Collapse is almost inevitable, regardless. I say 'almost' because nobody can really predict the future with any certainty. |
