We don't seem to hear much talk about 'peak oil' these days. It's obviously still going to be an issue. 'Exterminate all the brutes'. The various holocausts perpetrated by Western colonialists and the ongoing mass extinction event are obviously connected. The 'instrumentalist' mindset that has infected the West underlies both. In the broader context of human history, it is an aberration. But, it is likely to prove fatal. It is the mindset that needs to change. Technofix 'solutions' don't cut it. In many ways, the woke middle classes that seem to dominate the 'environmental movement' are the least able to change mindset, because they are those most invested in things as they are. |
