'How much do you think dealing with the consequences of the use of such technology costs?' - A good question, one I try to ask as often as possible! I agree we have to watch carefully whenever new tech gets introduced, and appreciate your drawing attention to the incinerator issue as it does indeed seem to be an important enabling factor for the oil-based consumer economy. I take it you noticed the recent story about Amazon chucking away brand new goods by the tonne just to make space on their shelves for whatever the latest essential item was. Their spokesperson admitted that 'as a last resort we will send items to energy recovery' - https://www.itv.com/news/2021-06-21/amazon-destroying-millions-of-items-of-unsold-stock-in-one-of-its-uk-warehouses-every-year-itv-news-investigation-finds Not sure what you mean by 'isolating from the political process' or your subsequent point about 'individual capital'. If it's that we're all invested in the system and can choose to invest in different ways to change the course of the wider culture then I have to disagree. Trying to live in the UK without knowing how to drive and without a mobile phone (until 2012!) has taught me that we don't really have a choice in those matters, not beyond isolated eccentric individuals. We were born in the casino and given a few chips to start with. Choosing not to play them doesn't alter the structure of the casino or the rewards and punishments it doles out to control our behaviour. It's just a way to ensure irrelevance and somebody else taking your place at the table. It's not that I'm apolitical - hopefully that should be obvious from my posts here! - but that I try to clear away the denial and illusions about the powers we're encouraged to think we have, hopefully leading to a focus on the powers we actually have, and are heavily discouraged from using. Hope that makes sense! I
