Including their own mix of motives for joining such groups: many people do indeed join such groups, participate in protests etc in part because they are looking for soulmates, love, partners for procreation, romance, sex - ending the feeling of isolation, rejection and marginalisation that they/we still have to endure most of the time even now with the 24/7 ability to connect with (seemingly/ostensibly!) like-minded activist-rejects via the internet.
