On willems character, the point is yiu don't have to make that judgement, just on the actual points is enough. I don't have to like someone to agree or disagree. Same goes for learning new perspectives. Point re poor is that though covid itself affects the most vulnerable, so have all the measures that have been put in place in the last year. And it seems to get worse the further we move from the western world. Real poverty is a knife edge, doesn't take much to send a lot over the brink. It may be evidence of a pre existing capitalist structure, but for those who were just scraping by and then were not, it makes all the difference. Its not enough to say, well, that was already happening. These were things cast as asides ie, what else can we do? Margos s African experiences have been illuminating, and it doesn't take much to transfer that to even more economically disparate nations, Inc us and UK. Its no wonder that many very poor people blamed covid management and then by extension, more wild covid theories. Because when things go south fast, it doesn't increase trust in authority, but removes what little there wS. We could afford some compassion on that concept. |
