Note how the media itself always scrupulously avoids using the term "the media" - instead they invariably refer to themselves as "the press". Hollywood movies likewise talk only about "the press". The "press" sounds so much more worthy, weighty, steeped in tradition etc and the term "the media" has acquired - from their standpoint - very negative "activist" undertones.
