As far as i've seen, in the last couple of decades there's been no shortage of media vitriol spewed about islam as a whole based on the blowback from the sort of thing we've got up to (as in sashmi's post/curtis' book), or just the vanishingly tiny number of muslims who end up doing a terrorism here - that people in a media analysis site generally don't want to go along with that obvious establishment bullshit narrative shouldn't be a surprise. I have never seen anywhere near equivalent amount of coverage of the far right when they did or planned something similar here (eg that one from the day before yesterday) - no equivalent pleading for 'soul searching among the white community' or demands that the leaders of the white community condemn all the 'white terrorists' that act in their name, lest they also be condemned (as if we/they're homogenous). It's generally assumed that all the respectable white peoplle already condemn these things, unlike the common implication regarding muslims and terrorism (often spread by front pages of tabloids). If the intensity of the anti-muslim propaganda has toned down in the last couple of years, i'd suggest that's related to geopolitical events more than anything (eg want to focus on china=bad for a bit - they'll probably do muslims again when they next want to invade the middle east or something) Or for that matter, any disingenuous and dangerous nonsense about the predominance of muslim 'grooming gangs' being spread around by respectable mainstream newspapers (like a modern day blood libel), with the real figures showing muslims are under-represented in the paedophile numbers (though based on various reports it seems the far right may have a little bit of a problem with that themselves (eg EDL etc)) (for avoidance of doubt, punish the paedos whoever they are, obviosuly). For a general sense of how little our authorities tend to care about the far right, have a look at the numbers spied on by the SDS (something like 3 organisations out of hundreds of leftie groups spied on over forty years). Islam like all religions has lots of beautiful things in it and some nutty stuff, and as far as i understand it, is actually quite diverse (albeit that muslim states are less so). Put the blame where it deserves to be - on powerful states (ours and eg saudi arabia) who use, fund/arm and encrouage the nuttier/more conservative end as proxies for imperial games, rather than the religion which they twist into the opposite of what it was intended as (and obviously blame the nutters themselves - though when they're individual 'stochastic' nutters who are mentally unstable, they should be described as mentally ill rather than terrorists the same amount white murderous nutters tend to be). I'm much more scared of the far right - radical 'islamists' are never going to take over this country, sharia law will never be the law (that would be ridiculous). Far right people could well do - with just this week arguments to allow official murder in the channel, and for politicians to overrule judges, arguably they already have. Norsefire is a billion times more likely to happen than ISUK. |
