"as far as i understand it, is actually quite diverse" just to clarify, I didn't mean ethnically (though that too) - I meant the religion itself, contrary to the common view, is I think quite diverse, with lots of different branches, sub-branches, interpretations and sects knocking about (I probably got the terms wrong) - varying amounts of state backing/oppression of those skew how visible this variety is I guess.
