When shaping your new powers remember that it is the sacred duty of the representatives of the people to uphold the freedom to demonstrate. It's a central feature of British democracy.' Business leaders are the real experts, eh Ray? Which businesses would those be, the banks, hedge funders, supermarkets, arms manufacturers, oil companies? I think you'll find that the government have been listening to them very carefully for a long time... Comments underneath are full of racist anti-muslim, anti-migrant bile. Nobody seemed to notice his mention of the COP talks, funnily enough, the only worthwhile thing about this segment, though even that is couched in naivete about 'leadership' and the suggestion that anything good could come from politicians 'uniting' over an issue. Interviewing Rory Stewart, letting him spout on about how the occupation should have continued, how good things were under the Americans, how bad the withdrawal was and how bad things will be now that the Afghans have their country back: 'RS: America is getting increasingly isolationist RM: I get that impression too, and it seems odd because just a few years ago they seemed to be leading the way in foreign diplomacy' seeing the job through ... hardly honourable to 'abandon loyal Afghans' who 'helped us to help them' ... leadership ... empathy' blah blah blah... All very serious, measured, earnest, but the analysis is pathetically shallow and evidence of swallowing a lifetime of propaganda about the nature of the UK state with not a moment of doubt, critical evaluation or serious investigation of these claims to virtue or what such 'patriotism' enables. I have a ton of respect for Ray, but he lost a lot of it here. jeers, I |
