    I think most comedians and entertainers in general aren't all that clued up and are happy in their ignorance. As long as audience are laughing at their jokes and they're getting TV and theatre bookings, everything's dandy. Those who are aware of human rights issues, and Israel/Palestine in particular, know it would be career-death to voice any opinion contrary to the current AS witch-hunt which is running wild in society. They're too afraid to call out Witchfinder General Rachel Riley because they themselves would then become a target of her venomous bile and pretty soon the bookings would dry up..

    Similarly, the Sky Arts "Portrait Artist" series, fronted by the fragrant Joan Bakewell (is she a Dame?) features several well-known entertainers and actors -- the chap from Life on Mars, the Middle Eastern comedian/ commentator whose name I've forgotten -- and Alistair Campbell. Do any of them balk at sharing the screen with a war criminal and proven liar, responsible with Blair for the deaths of over a million people? Nah. This is show business, baby. Keep that nasty political stuff out of sight (and out of mind). Oh and yes, I'm available for Panto this xmas and keep me in mind for Blankety Blank.

    In fact the only media personality I can think of whose highly critical views on Israel/Palestine are tolerated and also retains his popularity with broadcasters is Michael Rosen. I suspect this is for two reasons. One is that he is Jewish, so he gets a free pass. The second is that he is (or was) the Children's Laureate, which endows a kind of halo of saintliness over his endeavours. Imagine Michael Rosen debating the Labour AS witch-hunt with Rachel Riley live on TV. I'd buy a ticket for that.
