Brexit Boris & the Fish war with the Froggies... 📂 Archived Message

Noting that the boat impounded by the French was said to be Scottish but for a Scottish boat was unusually named the "Cornelis Gert Jan": somewhat Dutch I had a quick look.

The Trawler / scallop dredger actually operates from Shoreham in Sussex but is registered in the UK to the Scottish sounding "McDuff shellfish"
    The charge is:
‘acts of unauthorised sea fishing in French maritime waters by a third party vessel to the European Union'
A few seconds dig into "McDuff shellfish" shows it to be a Scottish registered company but it was purchased lock stock and barrel in 2015 by Clearwater Seafoods: " North America's largest vertically integrated seafood companies and the largest holder of shellfish licenses and quotas in Canada. "

So...the boat, umm...licence and operation are actually 100% Canadian.

Which begs the question: is the "third party" referred to in the charge actually Canada?

-Anywise that took about five minutes and is easily available to anyone on the internet: except the UK Corporate press apparently.

I dont suppose all the Patriotic Brouhaha about the nasty Froggies impounding one of "OUR" lovely wee fishing boats and its hard working skipper would seem the same if it was known to be Canadian and owned by the "...largest shellfish producer in North America."
