Are you sure that half the humans on the planet are cosseted reactionary westerners? A small percentage surely - most people on the planet are living much more frugally in comparison and emitting bugger all carbon individually - you can't blame the people of the world for the tiny number of people who happen to own everything and so set all the rules too suit themselves - there's no global democracy (barely even any local/national democracy). It also shouldn't be surprising that the propaganda produced to muddy the waters by the people that own everything has cut-through, what with them owning all the media too, and inventing PR/advertising. (disclaimer: them meaning as an economic class, not the masons/lizards/joos etc) eg the average global wage is I think about £900 a month - this is obviously skewed upwards by the west and all the wealth we spent the last few centuries extracting from the global south (plus apparently patchy data in the poorer countries) - eg I saw a figure of $28 a month in Somalia, $38 in South Sudan and $46 a month for the Congo. As an aside I remember hearing that the richest country in the world based on resources is the Congo - hence why we have to make sure gangsters and nutters rule places like that so we can continue sucking out all their raw materials - imagine if Nigeria and Congo's coltan and lithium were all kept in the country and then made into African computers? we can't have that.
