Speaking slowly and sententiously, to show he was in serious mode, not comedian mode, he claimed that calling Peter Mandelson "demonic" was, per se, anti-Semitic. The host, Harriet Gilbert, did not laugh or even demur slightly. The other person in the studio that evening, one Jonathan Freedland, also voiced his support for Baddiel's words.
