Ever since Philby, Blunt, Burgess, Maclean and,um, Cairncross(who?) the Left have been predicting with grandiose self-assurance that the end of US Hegemony / US Empire / Capitalism is nigh. Chris Hedges still sets the Russia-adoring, seemingly amnesiac Left swooning every time he and countless other Philby/Blunt clone-successors proclaim with supremely grandiose self-assurance that the end of US Empire / US Hegemony / Capitalism is (still) ever-so nigh. And now, perversely-ironically, we've been forced to endure and cringe at the Left's universal Covid 19 Cowardice+Compliance+Collapse. Their total Capitulation to US-Russian D-Notice-style edicts and Orwellian threats. Yes - the saddest irony-of-ironies is that Covid-19 and more precisely the issue of chronically leak-prone, safety-violating, MAD biolabs like Fort Detrick - with its diabolical history of vile and viral cover-ups - presented the "America is Finished" Left with a once-in-a-lifetime, gift-wrapped opportunity to turn up the heat, sharpen their swords and finally deal a merciless death-blow or a kindly coup de grace to the heart and the jugular of US Power, Prestige and Credibility. But instead of seizing that golden opportunity the Left responded with total silence and compliance - not least because Putin and the Pentagon are on the same page when it comes to biowarfare labs: the US and Russia both want and demand that biolabs be kept off the media radar entirely so that they can continue to operate, virally violate and leak away in the shadows, a law unto themselves. And caught between a Russian Rock and a US hegemonic Hard Place, the Left has chosen to conform, comply and turn a blind eye. So another major and easy victory for US Hegemony, Empire and putative Prestige. Handed to them on a plate by the unlikeliest of servants. |
