Permanently hostile Europe - seems about right, no? Culturally degenerate? I think he may be referring to so-called 'culture wars' imported from across the pond. Seems likely. But then, what I noticed is that he also refers to multi-cultural aspect of the Russian society as in Orthodox, Moslem and Buddhist. That is true that generally they have 'live and let live' cultural tolerance learnt over centuries. Obviously, Chechnya in the Wahhabist camp doesn't quite fit into that, although that part of Russian Federation is not something they were willing to part with. Now, from my experience some ordinary Russians can be relatively bigoted, roughly the same as Brits on occasions (so no change there : )). This would probably show up more in Russians living in the 'near abroad'. Cultural cohesion and all that. It is also likely to show up in people that are not 'cultured' – nekulturny (very Russian concept : )), so it's not across the spectrum. sexually deviant. He is having a rant there. He doesn't like LGBTQ obviously. I think Ruskies are just about to introduce some laws on what can be shown on TV etc. that could 'influence' minors, so he follows the same logic. In essence it is a socially conservative society. Their call, I guess. Personally Stonewall's aggressive pushing of the trans agenda etc. here grates, but I can live with it … just : ). Contrast that with 'culture wars' we have across the pond and here - clearly designed to divide and rule the working class/wage-earners and there you have it – i.e. we have a problem Huston. Having said that, I read the article earlier and decided it was OK, but decided not to post it, although it’s funny in parts and quite insightful geopolitically etc. Orlov has always been a ranter to an extent and has been moving to the right since he left the US. Hence, I cannot be bothered to seek out articles by him, in general. But this article, on balance, is relatively good since it has info. There was an interesting comment from (I assume) a Hungarian commentator, disagreeing with Orlov on the issue of Russian society being naturally egalitarian and thus lavishing on their Cold War satellites' reconstruction etc. (sorry it’s too long to quote): See Hunguy on November 26, 2021 · at 4:38 am EST/EDT Obviously, Hunguy is pissed off with USSR that kept Hungary in their orbit. Otoh, countries like Hungary, Bulgaria, Romania were definitely in the nazi camp in the WW2. Can’t really blame USSR for keeping a grip on them for a spell. However, both equate USSR with Russia which doesn’t quite describe the situation in terms of Russian egalitarian instinct at the root, sans royalty/aristocracy etc. regime, of course, which must’ve been handy in the creation of the USSR. It is something that westerners are unlikely to understand easily imo. |
