I thought it was extremely well written for someone whose first language is not English. However, I am not sure I entirely agreed with this bit when I first saw it: “There was a recent hysterical outburst in Western press over Russian tanks massed on the Belorussian border, for instance. Russia is always “about to invade,” on Tuesdays especially, but somehow never gets around to it. That is not because Russia lacks the means or the opportunity; but it does entirely lack the motive.” - I read somewhere a few years ago that if Barbarossa had started from the current contact line in eastern Ukraine, they would have reached Stalingrad within 3 days. With the Ukrainian border just 285 miles from Moscow, I am not sure the Kremlin entirely lacks motive to ensure future NATO hypersonic cruise missiles are not emplaced at the Ukrainian border. Whether this outcome can be achieved by Russia politically or with standoff weapons seems an open question to me. - Shyaku |
