    I despise the Reagans more than both Bushes put together or more than Clinton and Bomber added up, although that's closer. It's astonshing how many septics still think he was this saviour figure who led the US back on to the right road instead of the figurehead of the architects of this modern hell.

    I keep wanting to dig into Rick Perlstein's supposedly magisterial "Nixonland", "The Invisible Bridge" and "Reaganland" series but the idea of three and a half thousand pages of it tends to deter me.

    The recent documentary "The Reagans" (four parter) was a pretty good, warts and all, presentation although I suspect it was partially motivated by the makers being Dems and wanting to score points. They were both vicious shitbags though and of course most of his second term he thought he was Frank Sinatra or something and the country was run by Regan and Rumsfeld and the rest of the neocon Klan.
