"This is for your own good. We've got to do this for the good of everyone. It's not just for your health, it's for everybody's health." Where was this mentality when these people were starving to death on the street? Where was this mentality when people were losing their homes and houses? Where was this mentality with the quantative easing of 2008? It's difficult to trust the ideas behind it - the stated ideals - because it jars with historical resonance and what we've observed happening. "

I tend to agree with scepticism about mandates - though maybe I'd feel differently if we didn't have the take-up we do, I'm not sure (I don't think so).

But to take issue with that brand quote in general terms, one thing doesn't preclude the other, or just because 'they' were shit about that stuff, doesn't necessarily mean they're lying about this one (there's a logical fallacy in there somewhere (tu quoque?)). And the hypocrisy being pointed to isn';t universal among people who agree with the various flavours of collective vaccine policies (eg much;/most of the scientists). Maybe the tendency (not universal either) among elites to want to do something about this one is something to do with the fact that it might actually affect people like them (and there are plenty among the 'elite' who are using their means to push the opposite view anyway). That's not to say of course that elites won't be looking for all ways to turn this disaster to their own advantage, as is their wont. This is just a random bit of semantics
