" it would be borderline miraculous IMO if on this issue the sociopaths-in-charge were actually acting out of genuine care & concern for the health and wellbeing of the population. "

Well, no one is that foolish. The aim of Boris and the Buggers from the start has been to normalise conditions ASAP to get people off furlough payments and back to working for their capitalist masters. They were willing to accept the deaths and indeed the calculated savings resulting from a sizable number of retired/non-working dead was doubtless factored into the equation. Certainly at least one Tory columnist mentioned it, but of course they had miscalculated the numbers, discovered it was going to crash the health service and had to rethink the plan.

Its still essentially still the same today but the capitalist pressures are growing worse as a large sector of UK capital is unfortunately rentier in nature and dependent on commercial office and retail rents which have been severely curtailed by furlough and homeworking. The longer this lasts the less chance of refilling the buildings. Besides...the favourite management system of supervising the backs of peoples heads facing screens has always been so reassuring. Moribund middle management likewise are doubtless keen to see the inspecting dandruff approach return as a hitherto sound management strategy. Otherwise someone might realise most of them are surplus to requirement in a home working scenario and its tatty bye time for the turnips.

On mandate likewise agree that they are totally counter-productive. As I said, were not in a Typhoid Mary situation. The tests are essentially free: it just needs the will to monitor by both parties.
