You're not the poster who used to known as ZEVolution are you? Archived Message

Don't worry if not (or if so), some of that reminded me of what he used to say is all.

First I don't want to speak for anyone else, but I don't think it's fair to describe most/all people here as anti-green (unsurprisingly considering the board's origin) - critical of particular green groups or organising tactics? maybe - cynical of proclamations of green liberals with an interest in capitalism contrary to their stated intentions? too right. We've got to hold these people to account or they'll just facilitate the continuation of the system that's causing the problem (and even think they';re doing good while they do).

People I know and people here have been going on about Congo, coltan and all that for a long time, not just since EVs got bigger - and always explicitly linking it to western use of laptops phones etc (this is still the example I use when talking about it - diamonds too - and just the inherent morality of our support of genocidal actions around there). Similarly about the oil industry. Of course, we're using mobiles or laptops made out of coltan and plastic to communicate these things (see image below for the usual glib response to that - not a dig, (or an excuse) - just a meme (as the kids say). Difficult to avoid really (noone's doing the carrier pigeons anymore).

I'm sure many here take some measures or have lifestyles that try to consider our impact, to the realistic level us plebs can with the constraints we have (I haven't got a car for instance (though more for skint-ness really)) - none of which is a gnat's fart compared to effects of global systemic decision by powerful people.

Nice batteries or not, electric cars aren't going to help all that much on the carbon front in the short term while the electric is still dirty - the only thing that has a chance on the transport front imo is much better public transport (or just stopping us having to travel to work so much (or at all)) - plus stopping inculcating consumerism from birth and transporting rubbish around the world according to exchange rate/local labour laws, purely for the profit of a tiny few would help.
