Couple of friends have had a sniffle for a day or two. Seems mild. What's noticeable is that it seems to be hitting the vaccinated at quite a rate.
The first four people identified in Botswana as omicron-positive were fully vaccinated.
The Dutch authority found 61 'omicron-positive' South African KLM passengers at Schiphol, on November 27. Of that group, 14 were fully vaccinated.
All of these KLM passengers had presented negative temp and official PCR tests 12 hours earlier in Johannesburg and Cape Town, during the usual rigorous screening before take-off.

UK immediately banned all flights in and out of South Africa but later issued apology after it was found the Omicron variant was in Europe weeks before South African scientists detected and flagged it.
Dutch health authorities (RIVM) announced on Nov 30 that they'd found the Omicron variant in cases dating back 11 days, indicating it was already spreading in western Europe before first cases were identified in southern Africa
[Seems Omicron had already been more widely detected but was 'under a carpet', until eager-beaver loudmouth SA scientist mappers described it - leading it to be dubbed the "South African variant", with attendant economic and travel punishment for the country]

What to make of evident transmission among the vaccinated, and what does this mean for vaccine mandates?

Looking at UK data, rates in the 60+ have nearly doubled in the past seven days in Tewkesbury, though it's one of the most vaccinated + boosted areas in England (38% boosted). Gibraltar - 100% vaccinated - is "closed for Christmas" because of cases. What's going on?
