"If we start with what the left does and how they live, we see that they are the management class — they are the professionals who organise, conceptualise, administer or, in the case of the writers we are interested in here, promote and justify the system, or ‘the machine of the world’. ...The left have almost no lived experience of what the people — the working class and the poor — call ‘real life’ and very little ability to see that life as it is, or as it is experienced by those at the sharp-end of their society. "

Just a little side-point: I take issue with his characterisation of the left - What about the poor working class left wing people? (I know we exist) I take issue with being described as managerial class without the benefit of the cash (or the tedium of the work) - and it doesn't match the left wing people I know in real life either (I don't know any managers (personally)).

Anyway, this had nothing to do with my support of lockdown (I'm sure you remember all the arguments I'd give, with the 'proper public health/track and trace would have been better' qualifier) - I was thinking as much in solidarity with all the workers in the NHS (inducing my family (not managers)) and essential jobs who were in harm's way at that time. I haven't read/watched the above yet, but I also provisionally take issue with the statement that the GBD was proved right - from memory they were proved wrong with what they told Boris Johnson to do last September, leading arguably to the Alpha/Christmas wave. That doesn't mean I don't think there's value in looking at how the west would be using covid for usual imperialist purposes wherever they could, so I'll give it a watch now (it was just my class shoulder-chip twitching)
