At the end of the day, the bats sold at the Wuhan market were not 'farmed'. Proximity to humans may have something to do with it which is extending that dimension. Industrial farming has developed to rapidly cater and provide sustenance to 8 billion humans. One has a choice perhaps, change the method to something less environmentally damaging and sustainable. This requires a political will which is missing, especially in the west. Malthusian type of 'solution' is unlikely to have legs imo - they tried it China with 'one child policy'. It seems that planet population growth numbers seem to be plateauing, which helps. I'd say in the west we need to change, but predatory capitalism is unlikely to allow it.
