"Greens across western Europe are fanatically pro-war, perhaps they think it's good for the environment." There are some people who claim to love animals: often these same people despise humans. The Greens likewise puzzle me. You would think they have a radical or revolutionary agenda but in "action" they appear to constitute merely a middle class party with predictably bourgeois concerns. Thus on the war, they are caught in the overton window of conceiving European countries to be geographically sacrosanct. A little history of course would show Ukraines boundaries to have changed half a dozen times under the USSR where it was indeed primarily a beneficiary. To expect lines on the map to remain static whilst constituent parts were being effectively ethnically cleansed with the aid of the west is the triumph of righteous principles over bloody realities. Otherwise its conceivable that they also saw a magic shortcut in the sanctions for part of their (quite commendable) agenda to curb Europe's dependency on fossil fuels: not of course considering that imported fossil fuels at several times the price and shipped around the planet at great economic and environmental expense would take their place, nor likewise that it would result in the present drive to keep filthy nuclear power plants operational beyond their danger points and indeed build more. Nor that this was really a side show or indeed a practice before slapping China with economic sanctions and war threats and gunboats: incidentally the same place where most of the worlds wind turbines and solar panels are made: you know- those things the Greens recommend we use instead of fossil fuels... The whole Ukraine debacle has opened my eyes to just how easy it is to make people not just conform but to zealously advocate the policies of the western corporate agenda whilst convincing themselves at the same time that they are upholding some great principle: it doesn't really help when supposed political radicals like the Greens turn out to be just as conformist and unreflective as your average middle class guardian lover.
