    About that antiwar particle:

As it has happened, post-communist Yugoslavia did it and Czechoslovakia did it and all the effected populations are far better off.

He is referring to the fact that partitioning is fine (of Yugoslavia in this case). You need to look for the para .. but the fact is, it wasn't fine. It was one of the first 'international rules order' by Outlaw Empire, outside UN Charter, and in cahoots with their German vassal (led by Greens I might add) and ironically, eventually with Iran onboard in Bosnia (eyes roll) - this led to a disaster that still reverberates today.

And here, which really caught my attention:

That the world may draw back from the dangerous precipice on which it is now precariously perched, therefore, depends only upon revocation of the dead-hand of the Soviet butchers and tyrants.

He shows his colours here (also) with very shallow analysis of Soviet policies and I don't mean about the fact that USSR just shoved in territories over time into Ukraine, starting with Lenin which was not very foresightful to say the least.

It jumped out at me, because I am reading:

'The great conspiracy against Russia' by Michael Sayers written in Feb 1946

Straight after 1917 revolution, and at the end of the WW1, Russia was basically invaded by US, Japan, Britain, Checzh, White Russians, French and others. Absolutely amazing that Red Army managed to get rid of them within 3 odd years despite having lost 4/5th of its territory at the time. It did depend on solidarity of the working classes, trade unions, and even military etc in the west somewhat. All tired of the warmongering. Fascinating book.

The point being is that Russia/USSR had a very good basis for distrusting the west based on evidence. It was the fly in the ointment from the Soviet perspective, which they were not going to forget and something that has defined their policies.
