Never heard that one before. Sad though how her claim to fame is the acceptable murder of 300 fellow human beings. Sort of chimes with my posting about Johnathan Cooke's recent piece and our malignant relationship to our planet applying also to our all to frequent murderous relationship to each other.

At first glance it appears that you condemn humans killing each other in wars. Salutary, I guess. It’s like me saying I am anti-war, which I am. Meanwhile, you completely left out the context, as though it has no consequence. I dug out some information of the background to that song and the circumstances below, especially for you.

Now, I have just completed reading a book about Stephan Bandera (I quoted it in one of my earlier posts). Historically, just over the border of USSR, in Galicia, Poland, Ukrainian ultra-nationalists (using the polite term), together with German nazi military slaughtered 250,000 Jews in that summer of 1941. That is precisely when Miss Pavlichenko left Kiev Uni and joined Red Army as a sniper. Fwiw, in 1943 Banderists started on the slaughter of Poles in Galicia, since they got rid of the Jews in ’41. Another 100,000? Not sure, one can find out.

Now Woodie Guthrie was an anti-fascist and socialist. If you tell me that he has a broken moral compass, I’ll tell you to scoot. It’s better to pause and think and get informed before shooting off the hip in this instance. I haven’t read Cook’s piece since ‘cultural’ issues is not something I am interested in at the moment.

    Who was Woody Guthrie?
From wiki: Woodrow Wilson Guthrie (/ˈɡʌθri/; July 14, 1912 – October 3, 1967) was an American singer-songwriter, one of the most significant figures in American folk music. His work focused on themes of American socialism and anti-fascism. He has inspired several generations both politically and musically with songs such as "This Land Is Your Land", written in response to the American exceptionalist song "God Bless America".[5][6][7]

Miss Pavlichenko song was recorded by Woodie Guthrie in 1946.

From wiki: The American folk singer Woody Guthrie composed a song ("Miss Pavlichenko") as a tribute to her war record and to memorialize her visits to the United States and Canada.[22]

    Who was Miss Pavlichenko?
In June 1941, Pavlichenko was aged 25 in her fourth year studying history at Kyiv University when Nazi Germany began its invasion of the Soviet Union.[12]

Of the 2000 female snipers in the Red Army when she was recruited, only 500 survived the war.
