This party season I've been out and about, meeting friends and family. Everyone seems to be drinking more than usual. Even they, the affulent middle class, seem a bit... uneasy about what's happening and what the future holds. Imagine having to shop in Tesco and Lidl when one is used to Sainsbury's and Waitrose!?
The leap upwards in energy prices, when one has a nice house with a heated double-garage, isn't something one can just ignore.
I've got the bruises on my shins to prove it. Expressing 'reservations' about Zelenksky's many 'qualities', shocks the average, avid, Guardian reader! Not everyone is 'doped' though, far from it. One woman I know owns four homes for old people. Places that cost over a thousand pounds a week. Brexit ####ed everything proper, because suddenly all those students from Poland went home. She said her heating bills had exploded. Can she put the fees up to £1500 a week without negative consequences for her business? She's developed a nervous tick in her right eye. To her credit she was the only person who expressed any form of criticism of Zelensky or rest of the West. This might be because she's a Russian, though now she says she's Latvian. She started working as a cleaner in carehome in Brighton years and years ago, now she's running four, but for how long?
